What is Community Policing?

The Community Policing Program is the Community and the Police working together to identify and address the concerns of the community relating to social matters and criminal activity.

It is a PEOPLE-ORIENTED form of policing on a partnership between the community and its police, designed to use feedback from the public to enable the police to be aware of and to implement solutions to the concerns of the community.

Citizens of the community are best able to identify problem areas in their neighbourhoods; it is the committee’s responsibility to bring these problems to the attention of the police and then mutually find the solution.

The members of your Ramara Township Community Policing Committee are working together to ensure Ramara Township continues to be the kind of community we all want to live in, but we need your input.

When the need arises to contact the Police, we wish to remind you that 911 is to be used for serious medical emergencies, to report a fire, to report a crime in progress, an accident which involves personal injury or other serious emergency.  All other calls should be directed to the province wide police assistance number 1-888-310-1122 or cellular 677.

Currently the Ramara Community Policing Committee is focusing on traffic concerns. The Committee purchased a radar speed board which is used in problem areas throughout the municipality to slow traffic down. The Committee has also placed speed tubes in problem areas to get an accurate count and time that speeding may be occurring.

The Committee has been credited with bringing a Community Safety Zone to the Village of Brechin.  Also the Child I.D. has been a very successful program which will continue in our area schools.
